When a hobby turns into a business

Hobbies are all about passion. They’re fun activities you do because you enjoy them; you’re not worried about the money they make or how much of your time they take up. It’s just something you participate in because you truly enjoy it. That’s what happened with Thomas Smith, the owner of Long Beach Concrete. Based in California, Long Beach Concrete, or LBC, specializes in concrete repair for residential and commercial properties. The LBC team can fix just about anything: concrete patios, driveways, sidewalks, pool decks, retaining walls. You name, they repair or install it. 22 years in business started out from a hobby that Thomas had when he was a kid.

Thomas grew up in a blue collar family. His father, Mark, was a concrete cutter, and his mother, Amy, was a masonry expert. It was a match made in Heaven. Mark worked for a local concrete company for 47 years, mainly doing flatwork and design. He would bring Thomas along on the projects since he and Amy didn’t have enough money to pay for daycare. Unlike most kids who were outside playing, Thomas was helping his dad build concrete patios and lay foundations. It wasn’t exactly a normal childhood. But that experience and hobby of helping dad turned into something more.

When Thomas turned 21, he moved out of his parents home and started Long Beach Concrete. Now at 43 years old, Thomas has been successfully running the company for two decades and has a team of experienced concrete experts by his side. Previous clients refer tons of work his way, so he rarely needs to do any sort of advertising to keep the flow of business coming in. LBC’s work is very high quality, so you can expect to invest in something that lasts for a long time. As I write this, their concrete service has done several successful projects that I’m aware of just in the past couple weeks. They installed a concrete pool deck around a figure 8 shaped swimming pool for an elderly couple about a mile from the beach at 3003 East Vista Street, they installed new concrete steps at the police station downtown at 3800 E Willow St, Long Beach, CA 90815, and they put in a couple patios for homeowners at the corner of E 15th St and Redondo Ave.

If you’re in need of flatwork in Long Beach, give LBC a call and you will not be dissapointed.
